ANDREW SMASHES A NEW PERSONAL BEST!

Not content with running 1 hour 18 minutes 10 seconds in the Stevenage Half Marathon on 6th November just six days later ANDREW PATTERSON was running another half and this time he finished in just 1 hour 12 minutes 29 seconds to win the Remembrance Run Half Marathon race at Debden, near Saffron Walden on Saturday.  That’s a new personal best.

At the same venue STEVEN DOBNER ran a new personal best of 43 minutes 58 seconds in the 10K and DAVID PATTMAN was not far behind in 44:45.  In the 5K MASON SIMMONS was second man aged 20-29 in the 5K with 19 minutes 28 seconds.

Steven said, “It was a gorgeous morning over Saffron Walden for the Essex Remembrance 10k with a dry and pretty still day greeting us.

Dave and I set off with a target of getting close to or breaking 45 minutes.  After the first lap and feeling good I left Dave and pushed on.  Andrew Patterson flying past shouting encouragement on his way to winning the half marathon was perfectly timed and led to my fastest kilometre as I was dragged along in his wake.

A final push saw me dip under 44 minutes coming home in 43:58 for a new personal best, knocking three minutes off my previous best.  Dave came home in 44:45 for his season best.  A great event with a fantastic medal, hopefully more Spartans will make the relatively short trip over the county lines to support the event next year.”

33rd Masters Cross Country International Championships

The 33rd Masters Cross Country International Championship was held at Santry Demesne Park, Dublin on Saturday 12 November.  There were teams from England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Yuko Gordon led the England W70 (women 70 plus) Team to Silver medal.  Gold went to the home favourite Ireland.

FVS’s Yuko Gordon was fifth in W70 race which was very competitive.  All the top five finished within 40 seconds of each other.  Yuko won the title in 2018 but concentrating more on marathons and road races in recent years, was unable to take the cross country surface as well as she hoped.
