STEVE AND IRIS WIN TRACK & Ian Wins In Baldock

Steve Mayfield won the men’s and Iris Hornsey the women’s Fairlands Valley Spartans track and field championships and Ian Yenney won the Baldock 10k while other Spartans were out in the Dunstable Downs and the Chesterfield Marathon.

STEVE AND IRIS WIN TRACK

STEVE MAYFIELD won the men’s and IRIS HORNSEY the women’s Fairlands Valley Spartans track and field championships. Steve won GOLD with 366 points with STEVE GREEN taking SILVER with 293 and GRANT RAMSAY BRONZE with 279. Iris won the women’s competition with 303 followed by SHARON CROWLEY on 213 and STEPH MATFIELD on 208.

Special mention to Grant whose 3000 metres time of 9 minutes 38.3 seconds was the top scoring performance of the day with 94 points (99 after adjusting for age).

Ian Wins In Baldock

IAN YENNEY won Sunday’s Baldock 10K. His first ever victory in a road race and with a new personal best of 36 minutes 59 seconds. DAVID BOWKER was 14th overall and second vet (50 plus) in 41:35 while JENNY BIRKIN second female veteran (40 plus) in 45:50.

Dunstable Downs

JEANETTE COLLINS completed the 20 mile off road Dunstable Downs Challenge in 4 hours 41 minutes.  There were a few ploughed fields and lumpy trails through woods and amazing views from the Downs. She really enjoyed it and recommends the event to others.

 

The First Chesterfield Marathon

The inaugural Chesterfield Marathon took place on Sunday, 14th September 2014. Nestled in the Peak District, the town is famous for its Parish Church with the crooked spire.

The marathon was a testing run, starting and finishing in the Queens Park, but taking in a lot of the local area. ROGER BIGGS ran a steady race to finish in 5:15:14.

Stevenage Marathon and Half Marathon

Get Sunday 2nd November in your diary. The Stevenage Marathon is only organised every ten years and it takes place this Autumn. The annual half marathon will be on the same day. Visit www.fvspartans.org.uk for more information.

Join The Spartans

Live in or near ? Like running? Spartans is your local running club and is on the up! The club was voted the ’s Best Running Club in 2010. It now has hundreds of members and encourages

participation by all. The Spartans have a varied training programme to suit those who want to run 5 kilometres through to full marathons.

The Spartans weekday training sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Go along to the new sports centre at – a , , (SG2 8UT) at 7p.m. Up to five running groups go out on training nights – there will be one to suit you!

The Spartan Starter group starts from Marriotts at 7.30p.m. every Monday (except public holidays) and 7p.m. every Thursday.

Most long Sunday morning training sessions start 9.00a.m. sharp. Spartan track training sessions are held at Ridlins Athletics Track, Woodcock Road, most Saturdays from 9.15a.m. There are events to enter every Sunday. Newcomers are very welcome – those who have not done very much running yet might prefer to start with a Thursday, Saturday or Monday session.

Try a few sessions before joining. Membership is only £35 per year, £25 without UKA membership. Concessions are available. Membership forms are available on the Spartans website www.fvspartans.org.uk Please ask if you would like a paper copy.
