Thomas Cowan has now run a total of 106K – he has smashed his target, but is going to keep going until the end of the summer holidays and see how many kilometres he can get to!
He said, “Over lockdown I have taken up running with my mum and dad. I have also really missed school. It has made me want to raise some money for the Venkatraman Memorial Fund which provides educational facilities for children and young people in the Indian fishing village of Kovalam, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. I think all children should have the opportunity to go to school and to learn.”
12 year old Thomas has been running three times a week and, so far, raised £1,140. Mum Sophie is Chair of Fairlands Valley Spartans.

77 Days and still on the road
Fairlands Valley Spartans have been running for 77 days! Their virtual relay has visited all four of Stevenage’s Twin Towns and they have continued by running in some of the world’s iconic marathons.
FVS completed the Luxor Marathon on Sunday. The posts which took them through the start and finish were entered by Duncan Flounders and Danny Scanlon respectively.
Next the Stevenage-based running club are heading for Morocco to run the Marathon Des Sables.
On Sunday the Spartans covered 299 miles with 37 members posting a distance. In addition they had 302 bonus miles for the week from those not on Facebook. The virtual relay was started to keep people moving during lockdown. How far have they covered so far in 77 days? – 20,739 miles!
