SPARTAN WOMEN CLEAN SWEEP AT BEDFORD

Beating the Snowdon Elements * Half on 3rd November

There was an amazing performance at the Bedford Autodrome Half Marathon as Spartans  managed a podium clean sweep in the women’s race.

Twelve weeks ago GAIL MACKIE, MICHELLE REEVES and ASHLEY KING targeted a sub-90 minutes half marathon. The weather prevented the attempt at Peterborough, but two weeks later they lined up at Bedford.

Gail won the women’s race in a time of 1:28:45, with Michelle finishing second in 1:29:08. Ashley was not far outside the 90 minutes and made it the clean sweep for the Spartan ladies, finishing third in 1:31:22.

JAMES KAY ran in the men’s race, completing in 2:10:28.

In the 10k Event RICKY PEARCE was 7th male overall in a time of 37:58 while SUSAN McANENY was 14th woman in 48:57. Both were third in their category.

Snowdon Marathon

The Snowdon Marathon started wet, but dried up nicely through the day, although too late to prevent the path down to the finish becoming extremely dangerous with plenty of runners losing their footing into a mud bath.

YUKO GORDON finished 1st V65 (21st female overall) in an unbelievable 3:40:57, although she was on for Sub 3:30 until the muddy section.

KAREN ELLIS kept under 5 hours with an excellent 4:55:47 and MICK ANDREWS finished in 5:17:13 despite needing over an hour for the final tricky 3 miles.

MARIA THORNE was a pleasing 5:41:23 finishing with ex-Spartan Lorraine Thomas, and SHARON CROWLEY maintained her record of the most female Snowdon marathon finishes in her 28th Snowdon marathon with a time of 5:44:54.

Despite his foot injury and absence of distance training in the last 6 months PAUL HOLGATE also persevered with his record of finishing every Snowdon marathon since 1988, limping round the 26.2 miles, 3,178 feet of ascent, in 8:28:54 for his 31st consecutive Snowdon marathon finish.
