FRED HUGHES 10 – BRIAN 2ND IN CATEGORY

John Nelms Runs 80th Marathon

Spartan BRIAN WHITE was a prize winner at Sunday’s Fred Hughes 10, an undulating ten mile road race on the south western outskirts of St Albans.  He said it was a very sunny and bright morning if a little cold.  The initial frost did result in a couple of slippery sections.  Brian was second male 60 plus in 1 hour 11 minutes 35 seconds.

The next Spartan in was John Roxborough with 1:14:32; Matt Clarke came in with 1:25:28 and Jim Brown completed the men’s county team (of four) with 1:27:40.

Steve Dobner, Alison Shelley and Fiona Clarke worked brilliantly as a team and supported each other which helped Fiona to a new personal best of 1:27:29.  It was a great run.

Steve came in with 1:27:22 and Alison with 1:27:34.

Fiona and Alison headed up the Spartan women’s county team (of three) and were supported by Wendy Tharani who finished in 1:34:36.

Carol Paul 1:41:03; Taher Tharani 2:00:11 and Roger Biggs 2:24:05 brought the Spartans total up to twelve in the tough event.

Essendon 10K

JONATHAN JONES time for the Essenden 10K was 55 minutes 35 seconds.  He said the course was undulating and the temperature was below freezing to start, but the course was run on mainly paths and was well gritted.  A very good and picturesque course and country location worth visting.

The other Spartans at the Essendon 10K were Caroline Barter 55:27; Dzenana Topic 65:34 and Lisa Potter 75:06.  Julie Gray ran the Essendon 5K in 36:50
