DOZENS OF SPARTANS AT STANDALONE

65 runners and a top ten finish

After dire forecasts the weather was kind to us all at the Standalone 10K said Spartan ANDREW PATTERSON.  He continued, “My time of 35:02 was a 24 second PB, there was a good pack of lead runners who helped pull me a long to a respectable time and I was happy to sneak inside the top 10.”

A fantastic 65 Fairlands Valley Spartans completed the race.

The Spartans other sub forty men were PAUL HEWETT 39th in 38:12; DAVID HARRIS-CHERGUIT 44th in 38:27; KEITH COUGHLIN 46th in 38:35 and DEAN CARPENTER 54th in 39:08.

The fastest Spartan women was the amazing YUKO GORDON who won the 65 plus contest with 43 minutes 58 seconds.  She was 149th out of the 1335 finishers.

abbiestandaloneNext came CLAIRE PULLEN 261st in 46:59; ABBIE PEZ 275th in 47:24 ahead of mum TRACEY PEZ 326th in 48:36.  Abbie cut her personal best by 4 minutes 44 seconds.  JO BOWDERY was 409th in 50:27; GEORGIE HOOPER 422nd in 51:10; VERITY SUTTON-FISHER 438th also in 51:10 and ALISON BURROWS 509th in 53:03.

24 hours after a warm and sunny parkrun in Tuscany PENNY SCHENKEL adjusted well to the different conditions and celebrated a very significant birthday with a perfectly paced beat the hour run to finish in 59 minutes 57 seconds.

MARIAN MORLEY achieved a person best (PB) and a significant milestone getting under sixty minutes for the first time with 59 minutes 58 seconds.

Bournemouth

Spartan EVA RAMSEY completed the Bournemouth Half finishing 35th out 1712 women in a personal best (PB) of 1:38:45, knocking a massive 6 minutes and 40 seconds off her previous PB.

John Nelms and new Spartan Chloe Chapman both travelled to the south coast for the Bournemouth marathon on Sunday.

A blustery but dry day and a course with quite a few ‘rolling hills’ made for an enjoyable day out, with runners doing an out and back on both piers and the last 8 miles running along the promenade in full sunshine.   Chloe completed her first ever 26.2 in a great time of 5.22.  John finished his 70th marathon in 4.15.

Half At Havering

GERRY ROSEN took part in the inaugural Havering Half Marathon on Sunday and finished in 2:33:19.

Parkrun Highlights 5th October 2019

Congratulations to Parkrun celebrating its 15th birthday this week.  The first event on 02 October 2004 at Bushy Park, London, originally called Bushy Park Time Trial, had 13 participants and 5 volunteers.  Since then, more than four million different people have completed a combined total of 53.8 million parkruns across 21 different countries.  Bushy Park today regularly attracts over 1,000 participants and 50 volunteers each week.

If you had run a parkrun every week for the past 15 years you will have completed 780.

This week, 40 Spartans ran eight different parkrun events.  Fastest lady was Mo WARRILLOW [26:00] at Panshanger. John ROXBOROUGH [21:44] was fastest male running at Abingdon for the first time.

Personal Best times were achieved for Mo WARRILLOW, Luke GURNEY [26:22] at Stevenage and Trudie MOLLOY [26:06] at Wimpole Estate.

FVS parkrun tourist award this week is awarded to Penny SCHENKEL [30:01] and Jim BROWN [30:01] running at Murra di Lucca, Italy.  This was a wonderful event run on the walls of Lucca in Tuscany.
