COUNTRY TO CAPITAL

Fly 5K 50th

Spartan JOHN HARRIS ran the Country to Capital 43 mile race on Saturday with a time of 6 hours 52 minutes 1 second.  Country to Capital is a 43 mile point to point Ultra Marathon starting at the Chiltern Way Academy, Church Lane in Wendover and finishing at the Waterside Cafe in the Little Venice Canal basin close to London’s Paddington station.  The route is a mix of country trails and canal towpath.  John was 66th.  There were 197 finishers.

Racing Round England
In their race around England Spartan team leader PENNY SCHENKEL is closing in on the finish line with 2605 of the 2970 kilometres done.  With more rthan 200 kilometres done in the last week she has been near the Welsh border for a while and has reached Bomere Heath in Shropshire heading for Shrewsbury.
Penny has a lead of nearly 400 kilometres on second placed JIM BROWN on 2213.  He is in Crosscanonby, Cumbria having passed through the Solway Firth Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within sight of Scotland.  Now he’s heading for Workington and settling into the long slog against the prevailing wind
On his way through Middlesbrough BRIAN WHITE is on 1945.
Fourth placed SHARON CROWLEY is coming into Hull with 1765 kilometres.  KEN JUDE is up into fifth place on 1368 and is nearly into Aldeburgh in Suffolk.
CATHY CRAIG and HAZEL SMITH are both in Essex.  Cathy is on 1312 in Thorpe-le-Soken and has opened up a 19 kilometre gap on her daughter who is in Thorrington with 1293.
LIZ CROWLEY is up one place to eighth and in Gillingham, Kent on 1191.  Ninth place JON SYPULA is also in Kent at How Green with 1177 as is PAUL HOLGATE tenth with 1126 and between Margate and Westgate.
The chasers are still going well LIZ CARVELL, 923 in Bognor Regis; TRACY PEZ 858 at Swanwick, Southampton; WENDY THARANI, 767 at Corfe Castle and LEE PICKERSGILL, 607 in Dartmouth just about to get on the ferry to Kingswear.
In the virtual race around England the Fairlands Valley Spartans team have already covered a total of 19,149 kilometres, the equivalent of more than six times round the course, and are now scattered between Devon and Shropshire.  The event started in Bristol and is following the coasts and borders of England in an anti-clockwise direction.

Fly 5K 50th Edition
Five Spartans celebrated the fiftieth Fly 5K.  They were JIM BROWN 112th and second Vet 65 plus in 25 minutes 29 seconds; NICOLA ANDERSSON 116th with a personal best of 25:49; MARIAN MORLEY 179th and second female 55 plus with 28:56; PENNY SCHENKEL 191st in 29:20 and PAUL HOLGATE 201st in 29:57.
The virtual Fly races started during lock down to help keep people active.

(Not) Parkrun
In addition to those using the same effort to record Fly 5K times on Saturday NICOLA ANDERSSON and JIM BROWN ran (not) ParkRun times of 26:28 and 26:52.
(Not) Parkruns can be run on any day of the week.
