At the British Masters Championships in Birmingham, Grant Ramsay won silver in the 3000 metres steeplechase, for the M45 category.
Ramsay’s time was 12:25. This was despite his preparations being plagued by sciatic nerve issues in the last four weeks.
Training was disrupted as Ramsay had reduced flexibility and movement in his right leg, caused by the trapped nerve in his lower back.
Although fitness was down, Ramsay was still strong enough to put in a fine performance over the 35 barriers and waterjumps.
JOHN HARRIS and DAVID BOWKER competed in the British Masters Track and Field Championships on Saturday, both in the 1500 metres. John was in the M55 race and finished eleventh in 5:17.42. David was in the M60 race and finished seventh in 5:33.23. David said neither got involved at the sharp end, it was a good experience and they had fun.
Burnham Beeches
The Burnham Beeches Half Marathon was on a mixture of closed roads and had hard surfaced woodland paths through the cool shade of the ancient Burnham Beeches woodland in South Bucks. One thing the 13.1 miles two lap course was not was flat.
This was JIM BROWN’s first longish run after fitness issues in July. Having got a back to 10K last weekend he bullied his way round. Although he says he was definitely short of miles and felt it on the last two hills Jim got round in 1 hour 54 minutes 34 seconds and squeaked into the top half of finishers with 259th out of 605.
Wendy Tharani was 404th in2:06:27 and Taher Tharani 568th in 2:36:00
Wendy said, “Burnham Beeches is an area of outstanding natural beauty. This was an undulating run through the forest with two loops. There was brilliant support at the start and throughout. A fabulous medal and race teeshirt.”
MALCOLM McGREGOR was 284th in the associated 10K event with 59 minutes 30 seconds. There were 591 finishers in the 10K.
Eight Laps to 66
Spartan JOHN NELMS ran his 66th lifetime marathon on Saturday, a blustery and occasionally wet eight laps of Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes with 40 other runners. He finished in 4 hours 24 minutes. In doing so he completed his challenge of doing 26 marathons in 52 weeks.
