Free ‘Athletics’ tickets in Stevenage

This coming Wednesday evening (25th April) the Spartans Vets Athletics team begin their summer programme in the Eastern Vets Athletics League (EVAC).  They will be competing against six other clubs in the Central Division with the eight strongest teams from all three divisions going through to the end of season final.  Spartans ladies team will be bidding for their 4th successive final and the men will be hoping they can improve sufficiently to qualify for the first time.

The match starts at 7pm at the Ridlins Athletics Track, Stevenage (Woodcock Road off Gresley Way).  This is a home fixture for FVS and the first time we have ever hosted a match. In a packed programme you will see all of the following events, with most of the track events having separate heats for the different age categories (Ladies 35-44, 45-54, 55+ and mens 40-49, 50-59 and 60+)

Track:  Sprint hurdles, 100m, 400m, 1500m, 2k Walk, Medley relay

Field:  Long jump, High jump, Hammer, Shot putt.

Whilst perhaps not quite the next best thing to the Olympics, it will certainly be very competitive and exciting to watch.  There will be several GB Masters athletes on show who can still turn in performances easily good enough to beat people half their age.  The Spartans team will, as always, be out to prove they can mix it with “proper” athletics clubs.

Do please come along and support if you can.  No need to book and no payments required!  The team give each other as much encouragement as they can whilst dashing between events but some loud Spartans cheers from the stands (which are covered!) would be fantastic.  Even better, if you want to get involved, some help to rake a sandpit or measure a throw would be very welcome indeed.

The team look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
