Event Instructions
Thank you for entering the 14th edition of the Fairlands Valley Challenge. As with all of the previous 13 years, this event is whatever you want it to be, from a casual walk to those who run it seriously as part of the TRA Medium Series.

We are currently reviewing last year’s course, but do not expect to make major changes. On this assumption, then for those who like to carry a map, an OS Landranger 166 will suffice. If you like the new Explorer maps, then I'm afraid you will need three maps, ie. 182, 193 & 194. You will receive an A4 sheet at registration that will show all three routes.

Details of the venue location are included with this letter. You must enter the one way system at The Hawthorns from Colestrete, before turning left into Shephall View at the T-junction. There is a car park adjacent to the venue, but if this becomes full, you will be asked to park in the main car park on the other side of the valley, so don't arrive too late!

The Scout Hut will be open from 7:30am, with hot drinks available from around 8:00am. Your route-card and instructions will be issued at registration, again from around 8:00am. Please try to register at least 30 minutes before you intent to start.

Tips: Bring a sandwich bag or similar to keep your instructions safe and do carry a drink, it could be warm!

Walkers are requested to depart at 9:00am, and runners at 10:30am. You are encouraged to keep to these times, in fact the great majority do keep to the two mass starts. You may miss checkpoints if you leave too early! Please advise your starting time when you check-in, then get this adjusted if your actual departure time is different, thus enabling accurate results.

On completion of your choice of distance, you will receive a commemorative medal, with a ribbon appropriate to the distance covered. This year you will be handed a blank certificate to fill in your own details, hence removing any delays. Hot drinks will be available all day, and our usual barbecue will welcome you home.

Results will be sent to all those who supply a sae, or address an envelope on the day and leave £1. If you have advised an email address, you will receive the results by email. Results will also be posted on the club website.

Facilities in the Scout Hut are limited, but baggage should be pretty safe, as the Scout Hut will be manned all day. This year we will have external portaloos, and you are asked to use these rather than the internal toilets. Showers are available in the nearby Sailing Centre after the event.

If you have asked for an accommodation list, this will be included with this letter. This and further details can also be found on the club website. As the event is expected to be very popular this year, a 500 limit will be enforced. How entries are progressing will be posted on the website.
