Bev Harlow – Chairman & Coach

Beverley Harlow first joined Fairlands Valley Spartans in 1991 after successfully applying for a place in the London Marathon. She had not previously been a runner and had intended walking the marathon, however, in following the training schedule, she discovered a love of running (slowly).

In 2011 she marked 20 years of running by achieving a PB at the Chester marathon. She recognises that she will never break records but now has a plan to keep running for as many years as possible so that there are very few people still running in her age category. Then she may start to win some medals!

After retiring from her job as the Deputy Headteacher of a secondary school, she decided that she would have the time to give something back to the club in return for all the support and encouragement she has received over the last two decades. She started by completing the LiRF course and enjoys coaching groups 1 and 2. Apart from running her passion is music and she is the organist and director of music for the church of St Mary the Virgin in Walkern. This means that she is generally not able to race on many Sundays during the year. She also enjoys cycling and walking with husband John and bordercollie/lab cross Meg.
